Your First Visit
A first appointment with us is mostly about getting to know your mouth — and you. Plan for about an hour. There's no pressure to agree to treatment on the day; the goal is a clear picture and a plan you understand.
What happens at your first visit
A proper conversation
We go over your health history, any concerns or discomfort, and what you want from your smile — before anyone picks up an instrument.
A thorough exam
A full check of your teeth, gums, bite, and an oral-cancer screening, with digital x-rays only where they're needed.
A clear plan
We explain what we found, what (if anything) needs doing, the order to do it in, and a written estimate of the cost.
What to bring
- A piece of photo ID.
- Your insurance details, or your CDCP / Sun Life information.
- A list of any medications you take.
- Recent x-rays or records from a previous dentist, if you have them — we can also request them for you.
Feeling anxious about the appointment? You're in good company, and it helps us to know. Tell us when you book and we'll take it slowly, explain each step, and stop whenever you need a break.
Before you come in
How long will the first appointment take?
About an hour for a new-patient exam and consultation. If you'd like a cleaning the same day, let us know when you book so we can set aside the time.
Will I need treatment on the first day?
Usually not. The first visit is for assessment and planning. Urgent issues — pain, swelling, a broken tooth — are the exception, and we'll always deal with those promptly.
Can I book online?
Yes. Use the booking form on our contact page and our team will call you to confirm a time — including evenings and Saturdays.
